Lowick Rovers v Longhoughton Tornados - 23rd January
This as the rovers first game of the new year and we were all looking to get back into action. The game started at a very good pace with both sides out to play entertaining football.
A new defensive partnership of Jake and Euan looked solid from the start and restricted longhougton to distance shots. The midfield of Adam, Reece and Ben were locked in a strong but fair battle with their midfield. We started to make things happen by some quality passing (great to see since we had been practising attacking passing at training) helping bring our centre forward Cameron into the game. It looked like we would go into half time scoreless but Reece found Ben to slot home with seconds remaining.
The second half continued the same way and a good break by Longhoughton and they grabbed a deserved equaliser. We didnt let our heads go down and we kept playing some skillful football football. Adam went in goal for the injured James who has been great all season, Jackson went up front and made some great runs and stretched their defence. James resumed in goal and then our midfield took control, strong running and passing from Reece, Adam and Ben stretched Longhougton to the limit and linked up well with Cameron who was now starting to look very dangerous up front.
James, Euan and Jake pushed the play up from the back as we had talked about before the game giving the platform to push for the win. Their keeper made several good saves from Cameron, Ben and Reece. Ben used the width of the pitch really well and Cameron eventually got the better of the keeper for a well deserved victory. This was great game of football credit to both sides .At the end of the game I was struggling to name the man of the match all 8 players on the day were superb. Captain for the day Reece suggested the whole team, an excellent idea which was duly accepted. Every week we have played with determination improving skills and a great team spirit. - John
Lowick Rovers v Rothbury Town - 12th December
Saturday was just one of those games! Rothbury town are a very large and physical side and played to their strengths, we found it difficult to cope with.they started well and took an early lead, adam and alex in defence battled hard to stop some strong attacks.james made some good saves but it was always going to be an uphill battle.rory reece and jackson tried hard to feed cameron upfront but things just didnt fall quite right for us.in the second half things got even more physical and rothbury scored more goals to go 6 – o.callum did his best up front and cameron went close with a free kick
Although this was poor result the pleasing thing again for this game is that we always play the game in the right spirit and try and play good football.credit to all the boys for keeping their heads up during the game showing what a great team spirit we have. - John
28th November: Lowick Rovers v Morpeth Sporting Club
The Rovers had another frustrating morning on Saturday. We started very brightly causing Morpeth lots of problems, which was very encouraging.
On Morpeth's first breakaway attack it was five against two and they slotted home a goal totally against the play. We kept playing good football with Reece outstanding in midfield and linking up well with Cameron in attack. James and Jake looked after the defence and we got a deserved equaliser when Cameron fed Callum to score from short range to open his account for the season. We were totally in command of the game but could not take full advantage, we were given a lifeline with a penalty, this week the keeper made a great save from Jake.
Morpeth took heart from this and were putting up a determined display. The second half continued the same way as the first, Reece supplying Cameron to take the lead. Morpeth were putting in a dogged display of defending with the post and their keeper saving them on numerous occasions. Against the run of play Morpeth had another breakaway attack and scored. Chasing the game Reece put in a man of the match performance but unfortunately Morpeth held out. Lessons to be learned from the past few weeks are when chasing games we must remember to track back and help the defence.
21st November: Belford 2 - 1 Lowick Rovers
The Rovers played another entertaining game on Saturday, when they took on Belford. Things started very well for the boys, playing some excellent football and totally dominating the play. Reece who was starting his first game linked up well with Cameron and only some excellent goalkeeping from the Belford goalie stopped it being a goal rout. Then totally against the play in their first attack Belford scrambled a goal.
The second half started a lot closer, with Belford working very hard to close the Rovers midfield. A fantastic corner from Euan (he's been paying attention at training) found Rory who slotted it past Belford's keeper. Late in the game Rovers were caught with a counter-attack when again Belford found the back of the Lowick's nets.
Hopes rose when Reece won a penalty late in the game and took it himself, but unfortunately hit the bar. There was some excellent play with Cameron hitting the woodwork twice and a very good battling display in midfield by Tony. All the boys are working very hard and results will surely follow. Adam captained the team very well and man of the match was Cameron for being a constant goal threat.
