12th December - vs Berwick Jaguars
As usual Lowick Albion showed great enthusiasm with 10 players turning out on a cold morning.Jack R. (captain Jack) opened the scoring within a few minutes of kick-off which lifted the teams confidence and set the tone for a great performance. Jack F. was at his best taking on opponents with clever dribbling and pace and getting on the end of some great passing by Christian who was making his debut for The Albion. With 2 goals to his credit today he was unlucky not to double his tally.
Christian added some flair to the team playing with the kind of confidence and freedom he showed last season finishing the game with another hat-trick to his credit and earning player of the week. James will be paying off his transfer fee to Steve for weeks! Larsson was outstanding, playing without fear and getting his reward with a great goal from an impossible looking angle. Max showed some real progress making an excellent individual run with the ball and just putting is shot wide of the post.
The whole team achieved their best performance of the season so far against a very good Berwick side that has plenty talent and who were encouraged by a very positive group of coaches and parents.
Merry Christmas to all the squad see you in 2010
21st November - vs Alnwick All Stars
Having seen Alnwick All Stars in action earlier this season we knew this was going to be a difficult challenge for the Albion. Brandon was first to arrive in loads of time for the game and maintained his usual enthusiasm for the whole game. With Jack F unwell, we all hope he gets over the flu as soon as possible we needed somebody to step up and have the courage to dribble with the ball and make things happen.
Jack F and Jack M both had excellent games working hard from box to box and taking their turns in goal. One of the best moments in the game was seeing Max make a determined 20 yard recovery run and win a big tackle in our goal area. It's really encouraging seeing players growing in confidence. Without a doubt Rory's diving save is one of the memories of the season so far, it was as good as goal keeping gets.
There are signs that Grieg is settling in quickly and showing an ability to read the game and making lots of effective contributions. George was very brave and came back into the game twice following injuries, he will continue to improve as he gains confidence and ability. Player of the week goes to Ellie who clearly had her best game so far. She showed no fear and was willing to challenge for the ball and was not afraid to have personal possession of it.
Hopefully we will all be fit for next weeks game with Longhoughton Lions.
7th November - vs Rothbury
Albion put in an excellent display on what was a beautiful day for football. James appointed Jack R as captain, "captain Jack", so we only need 3 more nicknames to sort out our confusion caused by an abundance of Jacks. He put in a first class performance working hard in attack and defence. There were goals galore with Grieg Wood bagging a hat-trick in his first ever game. His confidence grew as the game went on and he well deserved the man of the match award. He opened his account with a tap-in and followed up with a fantastic shot a few minutes later. Jack F is showing exceptional ability to run with the ball and take on opponents. Jack M worked very hard making some big tackles and showing real progress.
There are early signs of some Albion players starting to look up and make good decisions about when to pass or dribble. One or two of our goals in this game came from passing moves that showed great maturity. Max and George are both improving every week and will Rory is clearly enjoying his football and playing with freedom. Ellie decided to have a go at playing in goal and made some good contributions in the net and on the field. Brandon made a late entry to the game (oops) and showed massive energy as usual.
Our next match will be a good learning experience against a strong Alnwick side.
26th September - vs Longhorsley
This was the very first time any of Lowick Albion had pulled on a football shirt in anger. We were up against a team that were playing their second season together, some of whom were selected for last season's representative side. Most of our squad were also a year younger than the opposition. I have to admit I was concerned it would not be too much of a trauma for our new players; I need not have been concerned.Tactical instructions before kick off were kept nice and simple - "when you get the ball run towards their goal, when we lose the ball everybody get back and help win it back and have fun" With a few gentle reminders we stuck to our plan and by the end of the second period we were in the lead. Jack F. was first to take the gloves and kept a clean sheet before coming out and opening the scoring in the second period. 10 minutes later he added a second with an amazing long-range shot that most u14s would be proud of. Jack R. and Jack M. (lots of Jacks this year) provided the team with strength and some exceptional tackling and were not afraid to make forward runs as well.
Rory is showing signs of having some really good ball skills and when he finds more space he will be hard to catch. Joe enjoyed his first game and was very brave against lads who looked a lot bigger. Larsson was brilliant, he covered every blade of grass on the pitch, I have never seen a young player look like he enjoyed his game so much. In the last 10 minutes he had a beautiful volley saved on the line. Player of the week went to Max for showing some real progress; he concentrated on the game and worked really hard.
