Club Welfare
At Lowick United FC we recognise we have a responsibility to safeguard the welfare of every child and young person (under the age of 18) who has been entrusted to our care. Our first priority is to provide a safe environment for all our members. We subscribe to The Football Association’s Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures which is binding on everyone working at our club whether in a paid or voluntary capacity.
Four Key Principles
- The child’s welfare is, and must always be, the paramount consideration
- All children and young people have a right to be protected from abuse regardless of their age, gender, disability, culture, language, racial origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation
- All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
- Working in partnership with other organisations, children and young people and their parents or carers is essential
The Role of the Club Welfare Officer
A key member of our club committee is Debra Jerdan our Club Welfare Officer (CWO). She has a professional background in child welfare and has completed the FA child protection and best practice workshop. The CWO is the first point of contact for all club members and parents or guardians regarding concerns for the welfare of any child or young person.Debra will liaise directly with Northumberland FA Child Protection Officer and is familiar with the procedures for referring any concerns. Her primary function is to play a proactive role in increasing an awareness of good practice amongst club members.
Debra has over 11 years experience of working with young people in the Berwick community. Her day job is to manage the Information and Support Services department of Berwick Youth Project, providing support and guidance for 13-25 year olds. She works closely with agencies and authorities to ensure the safety of children and young people. Debra is a qualified Level 1 coach, but her speciality is in Child Welfare. Her main role in the club is working with managers, coaches, parents and players to ensure that our club is run with child welfare as our first priority.
